With sub-standard lighting posing a threat of injury, along with reduced participation, the Hawkes Bay Lawn Tennis and Squash Club (HBLTS) approached the Bobby Foundation for assistance with a well needed lighting upgrade.

Five of their ten tennis courts were floodlit, but the club faced challenges due to the aging lighting system that deterred members from playing during winter evenings.

Thanks to the support of the Bobby Foundation, who approved $20k towards the project, the existing lighting has now been upgraded. The new lights have significantly improved playing conditions.

Paul McAuley, the club Treasurer, shared what a difference this has made to the club, "The upgraded lights on courts one to five have been well received by the tennis players, with organised games, coaching, and tennis aerobics taking place during weeknights."

The success of this upgrade is such that it has inspired the club to apply for grants to install lighting on the remaining courts, which will provide more playing time than ever.

Paul added, "This project is testament to the club's dedication to providing the best facilities for its members and the community's support in achieving this goal. The new lights have not only enhanced the playing experience but also increased participation in evening and winter tennis activities. Club efforts, along with the generous funding from the Bobby Foundation and other sources, have made this project a success, bringing light and joy to the tennis community in Hawkes Bay."

Bobby is proud to support community sports and continuing to improve the odds for everyone.
