Bobby Lights Up the Glenfield Tennis Club

The Bobby Foundation were pleased to support the Glenfield Tennis Club recently, with the approval of $12k towards their court lighting upgrade.
To keep night tennis safe, affordable, and accessible, the club needed to transition from older halogen floodlights to modern LED lighting. Thanks to the support from Bobby, this latest grant completes the upgrade of the southern bank of courts - bringing them into line with the front three that already shine with LEDs.
The new lighting has improved safety and visibility on the courts, with the added benefit of lowering running costs, as the LEDs are more energy-efficient and offer superior brightness. Members will now have better access to evening sessions, particularly during the Winter months, which will also enable more juniors to find a pathway into the sport.
Club President, Sandie Newton, told us what a difference this upgrade has already made to the club. “We have great lighting at night for both interclub and social use - no more complaints that they can’t see the ball now! Our sincere gratitude to the Bobby Foundation in supporting us with this major upgrade.”
Founded in 1960, the Glenfield Tennis Club has long been a hub for families on Auckland’s North Shore, initially serving just the local community, as many families did not own cars. The “Ladies Midweek section” was extremely popular and was the vibrant soul of the club. Without grant funding as a source of income in those days, tireless fundraising was undertaken by this group which helped to sustain the club financially. Today, the club serves a diverse community and relies on grant funding to maintain their facilities.
“Our sincere thanks to the Bobby Foundation for their donation towards completing our light improvements project”, Sandie said, “Bobby has been one of our major funders over the past two years. We are very pleased to have been successful in obtaining two separate grants - the first for $25k towards a bank of lights on three courts and $12k from this recent grant to complete the transition.”
