Thanks to a $10k grant from the Bobby Foundation, the Pleasant Point Association Football Club (AFC) has kicked off a new era for local football in South Canterbury. The funding enabled the club to upgrade their junior and senior goals – improvements which will benefit players for years to come.

“For a small catchment area like Timaru, there are only a few gaming trusts operating here, and they’re under constant pressure to support many sports clubs with limited funds,” said Committee Member Mike Thomas. “Often, applications can only be partially supported. This grant made a huge difference.”

Before the upgrade, one set of junior goals was beyond repair, and senior posts were fixed permanently into the ground. This created safety concerns and provided little training flexibility, especially during wet weather.

Now, players train and compete with reliable equipment that will last multiple seasons. New junior goals keep young players safe, while mobile senior goals allow coaches to move training sessions away from worn goalmouths, protecting pitches throughout the season.

“Having the Bobby Foundation support meant we could complete the project much more quickly,” Mike said. “We were able to access a new funding avenue we hadn’t used before, and it’s set our club up with quality equipment for many years to come.”

Mike also praised the application process: “It was really easy, and the Bobby Foundation team were helpful with any questions. We’d highly recommend any club looking to renew or improve their equipment to get in touch with them.”

Bobby is proud to support Kiwi legends on the field.
