Bobby and Auckland Metropolitan Clay Target Club Hit the Mark

The Bobby Foundation was pleased to support the Auckland Metropolitan Clay Target Club with an $8k grant towards the purchase of practice targets, helping the club continue to provide sporting opportunities for the South Auckland community.
As a first-time applicant to Bobby, Club President, Gavin Paton, wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. “The funding experience was exciting. It did take a little learning, but once we got our heads around the process it was quite easy and very rewarding.”
Clay target shooting involves targets being launched into the air by a “trap” machine. One of the sport’s defining features is its inclusivity, as it caters to people with a wide range of abilities. It is one of the few sports where juniors, women, physically disabled athletes, and veterans can all compete on an even basis.
The different forms of clay target shooting offer variety to suit a range of preferences, experience levels, and abilities. As the sport is not reliant on size or strength, people of all ages can take part. This is reflected in the club’s diverse membership, which ranges in age from 14 to 85.
Located just five minutes north of Pukekohe, the “Met Club” is situated on a 25-hectare property and provides world-class facilities, including Trap, Skeet, and Ball Trap fields. Maintaining a facility of this scale is no small feat.
“Equipment grants are important”, Gavin said, “they enable us to provide our services to members and the community, and to maintain the ongoing sustainability of the organisation.”
“This grant helps us to minimise the cost of our junior programmes, as well as retain and grow our membership. Thanks again, Bobby.”
Bobby is proud to support community sports and continuing to improve the odds.
