Bobby and Swim Waikato: Giving Swimmers a Head Start!

Bobby was pleased to be able to support Swim Waikato recently, with $7k towards pool hire when they hosted two key swim meets. These events attracted swimmers both from within the region and across the country, including para swimmers.
Providing competitive opportunities for swimmers from both within the Waikato, and neighbouring regions is essential, not only so they can qualify for national championships, but to help build confidence and community spirit.
“We are extremely grateful to the Bobby Foundation for their generous support in funding our two long course meets,” said General Manager, Angeline Hardie. “Access to 50m pool racing is essential for the development of our athletes, and hosting events in our home pool helps keep costs manageable for regional swimmers, making the sport more accessible and sustainable.”
There were also some outstanding highlights, including appearances from several Olympic swimmers, giving attendees a chance to see them in action, as well as a NZ record breaking swim from a young competitor.
“Our meet drew swimmers from beyond the region, including Olympian Erika Fairweather, who motivates younger athletes and offers valuable competition for older swimmers,” said Angela. “We collaborate closely with neighbouring regions to ensure our events don’t conflict with theirs, creating more opportunities for swimmers to compete. Given the challenges of securing funding for competitive swimming, we truly appreciate this invaluable support.”
With opportunities like this, there is no limit to the success, whatever the level, that these young swimmers can achieve.
Bobby looks forward to continuing our support for Kiwi legends in the pool.
